Ancestor-figures cut into wooden boards of different sizes
(ranging from 60 x 100 cm to 75/85 x 120/130 cm)

Me, Gernot Riedmann, does the raw board and the other artist overpaints or reworks it in his particular artistic style.
The whole project has already proceeded quite far. So far I've around 40 ancestor boards done by excellent artists. It started with artists I knew from our area here in Austria. Later it extented to artists from other European countries and finally to artists from all over the world. In a way the series becomes universal - people from different continents and from different religions are participating.
The final aim is a number of 51 participants - this number is composed of:
33 artists from Austria and other European countries
17 artists from overseas - from each of the other four continents: at the moment African and Asian artists (from Japan, Mongolia, India) have already contributed
+ one ancestor altar (an installation by a Spanish artist)
still missing: one from Australia (an Aborigine artist), one from North-America (an Indian artist), one from South-America (an Indio artist) because I want native artists still embedded in their cultures.
It's intended to do a big final exhibition here in Austria, if possible accompanied by a catalogue, but frankly speaking I cannot yet tell date and place, because first I have to finish up the whole series which might take another 3 to 4 years. Then I can go into organizing the final exhibition.
The whole series will stay together - not a single board will be sold.
Nobody gets paid anything for his work - it's a matter of having participated in this project. I'm taking care of the transport. There are also friends who take the boards back- and forwards.
